Best Of The Browns In 2020
Josh Thornton
We all know how pivotal the upcoming season is for this young Browns squad. It’s going to be a team effort to take in all the new, come together and execute Kevin Stefanski’s vision of the Cleveland Browns. Along the way individuals will shine. Some will stand out from the rest and when the dust settles it will be clear who the best Browns were this season.
Keeping with true Browns offseason tradition, let’s take a way-too-early look at who I’m predicting to be the MVP of the offense and defense. Here. We. Go.
• Defensive MVP: Myles Garrett
I wanted to try and make a case of why someone other than Garrett would be the Browns defensive MVP… but I couldn’t. I just don’t see any other scenario making sense. You could make an argument for Ward, but I’d then tell you how a disruptive pass rush can make a secondary look good. Safeties? Nope. We all know this title will not be going to our linebacker group. It has to be Garrett. He IS that good and will be the MVP of the defense. If this defensive unit is good in 2020, look no further than Myles Garrett as to the main reason why.
• Offensive MVP: Nick Chubb
Now, when I said I was going to name an offensive MVP for this season, I know most of you immediately thought the obvious. Baker Mayfield. Right? Wrong…well, kind of. I fully expect Baker to be in that conversation. Hell, if the Browns and Mayfield play well, most will give the Browns offensive MVP to him without question. I’m digging deeper though. I’m venturing to say that if Mayfield performs well its because Nick Chubb performed well. Chubb chunking away yards on wide zone runs not only takes the pressure off of Bake, allowing him to play looser, but it also sets up the oh-so-important play action pass. If Chubb is playing well teams have to lock on him, making Mayfield’s reads easier. Causing the defense to expose their hand sooner. If this offense is marching along, I think we can look to Mr. Chubbalubahub as the catalyst.
We can agree or disagree on the selections. It’s all for fun at this point. Honestly, I think we may be able to swap a few names in and out by seasons end… especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Although the players that you tab for MVP may differ, we all agree on one thing…
Our Browns kicking some ass in 2020!
Go Browns!
