We Are Who We Thought We Were
Josh Thornton
It was a measuring stick game. A game for the collective Browns fandom to look at, diagnose and come to an answer as to where this team actually was… and where this team is likely going. Friends… they killed it. They went down to Dallas and put 49 points on the board in route to a convincing win, one that only got close toward the end. The most important thing about this win is… well, the win itself. The third one in a row. Pushing the Browns to a 3-1 record and right where they need to be for a playoff hunt. Yes, I said playoffs.
Something I don’t want to go overlooked in the shadow of this victory though is something almost as important as the victory… maybe more, depending on how you look at it. This team has established an identity and it was validated in this victory. We walked into the Cowboy’s house and dared them to stop our running game. They didn’t. We ran at will through beautifully schemed holes with pulling guards elancering like a violent ballet dancer. It was beautiful.
Our coach schemed plays that allowed OBJ to finally shine. Something last year’s regime seemed allergic to. Clock management and in-game functioning looked on point and… dare I say… professional! He was calm and collected. He had his players ready and willing to impose their will on the enemy. They did.
We watched a Browns team Sunday in Dallas that we haven’t seen in some time. Hell, some of you reading this may have never seen a team like we’ve seen this young season. The players are executing and the balls are bouncing more the Browns way, but the biggest difference is in the coaching. It’s making all of this possible.
Ill quote the color analyst on the call from the game… “I don’t think these are the same old Browns anymore… There is something different…”
Yes… yes there is.
Go Browns!
