The Inevitable Trade of David Njoku

By: Rich Stark

We sit here just a few days removed from the most recent trade demand involving Drew Rosenhause. Surprised? You shouldn't be. Now, in fairness I must say that Duke Johnson hired Rosenahus after he made his demands. In any case, that move helped get him shipped at the end of the day. Now, Mr Rosenhaus shows up again, this time as the agent for David Njoku. I for one, think this deal will get done rather quickly. Within a week or two of his hiring, Rosenhaus had Duke shipped to the Texans for a 4th/conditional 3rd. This deal won't take long at all.

Reportedly Njokus’ people want this done before camp. As for the Browns side of things, they are asking for a 1st. Let me be crystal clear here..NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Zero chance we see earlier than a 3rd and id consider a 4th . Njoku has been all potential and very little substance since being drafted. Absolutely gifted athlete with all the measurables you could ask for. The simple fact remains. He can't catch, can't block AND has issues staying healthy.

The mega signing of Austin Hooper in free agency and the drafting of a legit pass catching TE was the kiss of death for Njoku. Hooper is a fantastic fit for Stefanskis offense and the rookie Harrison Bryant is of a similar mold. All these things coming together is why Njoku is expendable. Its also been reported recently that he's been looking to be traded for a year now. I'm sure the Derf Kitchens year had nothing to do with it. He wasn’t in the long term plans and he knows it.

A very similar situation to Duke a year ago. Expect a similar return as well. We said for years “there's always next year” ( usually after the 3rd or 4th game of the season. Lets not continue this trend by attaching it to a player that also let us down, year after year.
