Cam Kaepernick?

Richard Sherman lashed out on Twitter this week after Cam Newton received a league minimum deal with the New England Patriots.

These times sure are making people crazy. Don’t get me wrong, if I could have the Cam Newton of 2015 on my team then I’d give him max money and be shouting “Browns Super Bowl” from a Cleveland roof top. The truth is, 2015 Cam Newton and what we have witnessed since that MVP season are night and day.

To put it in perspective, in 2015 we witnessed nearly 4,000 yards with 35 touchdowns. Don’t forget that he added over 600 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns to an already impressive stat line. Newtons rating in 2015 was 99.4. Since that season, his average rating comes in at just 80.4. In comparison, Mitch Trubisky has a career rating of 85.8. I don’t think anyone before this article would have preferred Mitch over Cam Newton, but Trubisky has been just as dominant in the run game over the last several years and his passing statistics are actually better.

So is Cam Newton being black listed by NFL owners in some racially biased scheme? Probably not. It’s more likely our boy Richard missed a few statistics classes in his time at Stanford. A once MVP caliber quarterback who has been regressing in his performance for 4 years now..... Also coming off a second surgery to his throwing shoulder in the last 2 years... Cut by his former team and missed 16 of his last 32 games due to a nagging foot injury as well. How could you not see the risk in signing Cam Newton?

League minimum sucks, but it’s better than not having a job and New England is probably the best case scenario for a quarterback that desperately needs a prove it season. Richard Sherman has a knack for saying some dumb shit, so we can just add this to an already impressive list. These trying times in our country will garner attention to this and push the unnecessary divide even further. I hope that most people can evaluate the scenario before pushing hate and I hope that we can see some flash of the old Cam Newton this season!
