NBA Rundown: Leap Day 02/29

By Ethan Tabor

What to expect

We will provide a basic rundown of the slate each day rather it’s in article, podcast or video form. The rundown will include games and spreads that day with correlated matchups, We will have a write up for specific players that we see advantages or disadvantages to having in your lineup, and we will then finish the rundown by giving you the top options at each position. The goal here is to not just give the best plays to win money but to teach you how to construct winning lineups on your own to make DFS a profitable game rather than a gamble. This article will be posted each day, at least an hour and a half before lineup lock. If the days slate starts at 7pm EST then you can expect the rundown posted no later than 5:30pm. Follow us on twitter to keep updated on the inevitable injury updates and how that will effect your lineups after this article is posted. https://twitter.com/Money_LineDFS

Today’s Slate

Heavy hitter type of slate. Tons of superstars in juicy matchups, tons of value across the board. Let’s get this money.

Top Plays

De’Andre Hunter- Random right? But Hunter has been playing very solid basketball for the Hawks lately. I have a few reasons to like him today: he has averaged over 10 shot attempts a game over the past 15 games, he depends on two statistics and that’s scoring and rebounds. The Blazers give up some of the most rebounds in the league and to the small forward position Portland is ranked 24th in the league in rebounding. On top of that, they rank 20th in PPG to the same position. Basically, the places where Portland lacks, De’Andre Hunter exceeds. I think he’s a safe play today at $4,700 on DK.

Gary Trent jr- Do you see the trend? I really like this Portland/ Atlanta game today. Trae Young continues to be amongst the bottom of the league as a defender, one person who is even worst than him is Kevin Huerter. The guards for Portland are in a great spot against these guys. I expect Huerter or young to be assigned to McCollum and the other to be assigned to my boy Gary Trent. Either way we fucking love the matchup. I’m more intrigued with Trent because the price tag for McCollum is almost to the moon. If I can work him in then believe me I will, but Trent at just $4,300 is a steal and he might come in unnoticed. Since Lilliard has been out, Trent is only averaging 18.9 FPPG. But In his last matchup we saw him hit the 30 mark, and earlier this year with no Lilliard we watched Trent score upwards of 40 fantasy points on multiple occasions. For guards this can’t be a better matchup, and we know Gary Trent will see 34+ minutes today. This is one of the best plays on this entire slate and I don’t see him being owned what he should be.

James Harden- Our first two plays are great values which opens up some money to spend. Harden scored 67 against Boston last week and did that with 6 turnovers. I like this play on DK tonight because Harden is priced under $11k and I feel he should never be that cheap! His usage is among the best in the league and his matchup doesn’t matter. Keep an eye out for updates on our twitter @Money_LineDFS for my spend up though...  because this could change. It’s noon when I’m writing this so very little injury news yet, but Lebron sitting out, Atlanta resting someone on a b2b, etc can definitely change what I’m thinking here.

Demar DeRozan- same song and dance from Thursday. He’s just too cheap for the usage he’s going to see with Lamarcus Aldridge ruled out again. Orlando is also in a back to back.

Position Plays

PG

  1. Rajon Rondo (if Lebron is ruled out again)

  2. Spencer Dinwiddie (if no Caris LeVert)

  3. Malcolm Brogdon

SG

  1. James Harden

  2. Devin Booker

  3. Gary Trent Jr

SF

  1. Lebron James

  2. De’Andre Hunter

  3. TJ Warren

PF

  1. Anthony Davis ( no lebron he becomes top play of the slate)

  2. Jayson Tatum

  3. Aaron Gordon (has been red hot)

C

  1. Bam Adebayo

  2. Jakob Poeltl

  3. Daneil Theis

Notes

Jakob Poeltl might be my favorite sleeper play. He was owned by everyone the other day and they only gave him 11 minutes. His price was $4,100 on DK that day and today is only $3,200. So I obviously like that but Dallas, who they played the other night plays a lot of small ball. With that being said I almost had a feeling that it could happen and it did. They failed to play Poeltl. Orlando is much much different with Vucevic and Aaron Gordon demanding so much attention. I don’t think they have a choice but to give Poeltl valuable minutes against this magic team and I think ownership isn’t there because of his most previous lack of minutes.
