Should We Be Buying Into This Indians Hype?
By: Jamie Renner
The Indians have been doing some pretty decent things this year. While it is only the very beginning of the season, it is hard to ignore some of the great things we have seen from everyone's performance, But should we all really be buying into the hype the organization kinda has going on around them now? The answer is no. Yes, I said it, you should not be buying into this smoking mirror image that is the Cleveland Indians right now. Look, I am a diehard fan. But even I can see past the fact that we have faced nobody good. An okay Kansas City Royals team along with a horrible Detroit Tigers team? Cmon, it is great that people are fans but maybe come back to reality and check in on yourself after Friday night's game. I get it, they are a little hot right now and where there is smoke there is fire but even I can see past what's going on right now. To me, this is just spring training but it counts and until we beat someone decent, I have no reason to believe in this squad.
Am I being a bit harsh?
Yes, yes I am, but as a writer I have to keep my bias viewpoints out of the way and focus on the game of baseball. I love what Bieber, Plesac, and Civale all have going on right now, but I expect that. They are our front line dudes for a while. Logan Allen, outside of the walks, looks great, he does not get a lot of swing and misses on his curveball but I will take what I can get from him. And as far as Mckenzie is concerned, he is really just a placeholder until Cal or someone else can step up. The bullpen looks awesome. Nick Wittgren needs to stop giving up the long ball and other than that, it's a solid unit. Top 5 in the MLB in my eyes.
As far as hitting is concerned, again, I like what I see from the people I expected I.E franmil Reyes, Jose Ramirez, Cesar Hernandez, Eddie Roasrio, etc. But give me more. I want Andres Giminez to start getting hot and really put the ball in play. I want someone who can play first base at 1st, and I want to see someone, for the love of God, who has played center field STAY IN CENTERFIELD the Amed Rosario experiment is going to crash and burn at some point, the scariest part is that it could happen at any moment.
June will be a different story, a lot of new names and faces will be called up and that is when I will give a fair analysis of the team.
